Frequently Asked Questions
I understand from the flyer that private parties at the nursery must be minimum of 10 people and at our location 15 people. I assume for a private party that everyone makes the same item, correct?
Yes. I tried once to teach two different projects, but it is too hard. Half of the people are waiting for the next step while I am with the other group.
When you have a private party, is the cost the same as stated for the classes on the flyer?
Yes, unless it is a fundraiser, in which case the price is lower. But because we share the profits, there are only certain classes I offer as fundraisers. I have a little more wiggle room with items we collect on our farm versus ones we purchase.
When you have the private party at the nursery is the space heated, inside? Or is it outside or under a shelter and unheated? Is it handicapped accessible?
The greenhouse is heated, although on very, very cold, windy days we suggest you dress in layers. We heat the greenhouses to 68 degrees, but sometimes, in those conditions, the heaters have a tough time keeping up. The facility is handicapped accessible, as is the rest room.
What are your fundraiser options? Are they events or items?
The fundraisers are still workshops. You sell the class to individuals in your group. Wreath class is, by far, the most popular. If you can gather 30 people or more, the cost is $20 per person. You can charge anywhere from $35 to $50, depending on what extras you might provide, such as wine, cheese, snacks, that your group leaders may bring.
Do you do private events on weeknights or just weekends?
It can be either. Date availability varies greatly from one time of year to another. Christmas workshops for example are often booked a year ahead. That doesn’t mean we would turn you away if it’s only a few weeks ahead. But available dates may be limited.
How long is a private workshop?
At Christmas they are usually about 2 hours, but some go longer. In the spring or summer they tend to be shorter. It’s not done until everybody is finished and happy.:)
How large of a space do you need to hold an event off site?
We fit about 6 people on a table that is 3 feet by 10 feet here at the nursery. A standard, round table that holds 10 people at dinner usually holds 5 people to make a wreath. You have to figure space for the person, plus space for the materials. So if a table seats 8, count on it holding 4 to make a project.
I have more questions. What is the best way to contact you?
Email is usually best for me, as I am in and out all day. Tina@BemisFarms.com
