Shrubs, the woody ones!
A long time ago, in a world far, far away, (1980) shrubs ruled the ornamental landscape. And then thing began to change. Perennials made a resurgence, squeezing out shrubs in some residential landscapes. But as is often true, what goes around, comes around.
