Bloomerang Lilac

Bloomerang® lilac is a remarkable new lilac with fragrant purple flowers that burst forth in spring and then again in mid-summer and continue right up until frost.

It has a compact, full growth habit and small leaves that make it the perfect shrub for smaller gardens.

We tried to buy about 300 of these for spring 2010. We were only able to get 30. When they are gone, they are gone! We have seen really young sizes of this plant listed for $45 (with economy shipping) at some mail order nurseries this spring. We are selling our for $49.95 and they are probably about 5 times bigger. These will be available starting Saturday 4/17/10 for pickup at Bemis Farms Nursery. The surest way to be able to have one is to go to our web store and buy one today for pickup later this week. 5/11/2010 update: We are sold out until fall2010 or spring 2011.

Hardiness: USDA Zone 3 (That's Vermont at the Canadian border)

Bloom Time: Spring, Repeat blooms from mid-summer until frost

Bloom Color: Rich purple in bud changing to lavender-purple in flower

This is a photo comparing the Bloomerang we sell here (on the right) with one a customer received mail order (on the left). She brought it in to us to ask if it would survive. The answer was yes it will, it will just take quite a while to get to the size we are selling now.

Size: 4-5 feet tall and 4 feet wide

Exposure: Full sun to partial shade

Soil: Moderate to well drained soils. Do not plant in heavy clay or wet soils.

Pruning: Rarely needed but best if done immediately after spring bloom.

Watering: Medium moisture, same as most other plants in your gardens.

Wildlife: Bird habitat

Type: Like all other lilacs, it will shed its leaves for the winter, and renew them with fresh new leaves in the spring.

Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring by applying Plant-O-Ganic fertilizer.

Uses: Specimen, mixed border, hedges, cuts or shrub borders.

Breeder: Tim Wood

A remarkable new reblooming lilac with a heavy spring bloom and strong rebloom from mid-summer until frost. The flowers are wonderfully fragrant. Now you can enjoy your lilac in the spring and again in summer to fall.

This is a great plant to include in the home garden. It provides vivid color in spring and mid-summer onward. Excellent mildew resistance.
