[Stone Soup]

What the heck is Tufa Stone? This surprisingly lightweight sculpting media looks like heavy old weathered stone when dry. Made with a wet mixture including Portland cement, peat moss, and perlite. On Saturday, February 24, 2007 we will be holding two half day workshops on using this material to make some attractive and useful garden items. The afternoon session will be very different from what we have offered in the past. Click here to view the brochure with pictures. Please note: This was originally scheduled for February 10, but was moved to a less cold time (yes, it will be inside, but still...)

Sun. Feb. 18 3 pm Days of Daffodils $29 / $25 Dozens of Dormant Daffodils, (planted last fall and given 14 weeks of cold treatment in our greenhouses) are ready to be designed with fragrant hyacinths into several cheery pots that you can sprinkle around your home for bursts of sunshine on cold, dreary days. You'll plant enough pots so you can give some away.
Wed. Feb. 21 7 pm Succulent Symphony $29 / $25 This dish garden is designed with the latest introductions for 2007. Echeveria "chillers"  and Senecio "thrillers" and Sedum "spillers" make great easy-care houseplants.
Sat. Feb. 24 10:00 - 12:30 Tufastone Morning $49.95
Sat. Feb. 24 1:00 - 3:30 Tufastone Afternoon $49.95

$49.95 includes all 3 projects!

Sun. Feb. 25 3 pm Tufa Stone $29 / $25 If you can't make our half-day workshop, or just want to make one pot, this is the class for you. You will make a trough garden with a fun but messy sculpting media, so bring gloves and wear old clothes. Pick up your pot in a few days, when it is dry, and you'll have a container that looks like it's been fashioned from heavy, old, weathered stone, but is surprisingly lightweight.
Wed. Feb. 28 7 pm In Thin Air $29 / $25 This brand new class features Tillandsias (air plants) that grow naturally on tree trunks in the rain forest.  You'll attach many different kinds onto a "faux" tree covered with moss.
Sun. Mar. 4 3 pm Beta Fish Bowl $29 / $25 Grow a peace lily in a large fish bowl above a real, live Japanese fighting fish.  My friend Chris has had one for over 5 years!
Wed. Mar. 7 7 pm Topiary Kitty $29 / $25 Stuff a wire-frame cat with sphagnum moss and soil, and plant the outside with several kinds of creeping plants that will grow and cover the form in no time. Pony tail grass mimics real growing whiskers!
Sun. Mar. 11 3 pm Liberal Pot $29 / $25 Planted with bleeding hearts, or course! We'll plant several kinds of "bare root" perennials to enjoy inside your home now, and be planted outside in a shady spot this spring.
Wed. Mar. 14 7 pm Ba Gua Garden $29 / $25 This table-top garden is based on the design of the Ba Gua, the nine sector grid used in the ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui to harmonize and balance the energies within a home.  Each sector of the Ba Gua is associated with important aspects of our lives: Fame, Relationship, Children and Creativity, Travel and Helpful People, Life's Path, Knowledge, Health and Family, Wealth, and the Center.
Sun. Mar. 18 3 pm Raise a Little Hell $29 / $25 Featuring perennial Hellebores, (Lenten and Christmas Roses) so named because they can actually bloom outdoors during these holiday seasons depending on the weather. Enjoy this pot with a selection of spring plants indoors, and put it outside in just a few weeks. Later this summer, plant into your garden for early spring bloom for years to come.

Wed. Mar. 21 7 pm Spring Equinox $29 / $25 Sleepy gardens may still be blanketed in snow, but there's a Flower Show right inside your home when you bring home armfuls of dormant, flowering shrub branches (such as forsythia, apple blossoms, and lilacs) that are ready to burst into bloom in the warmth of your home.  We'll arrange some of the branches into the latest European bud vases, and also make a basket with a  pussy willow handle, and fill it with colorful spring plants. Some of the branches may form roots, creating the magic of a plant you have started yourself. Plant your shrub outside later in the Spring.
Sun. Mar. 25 3 pm Garden Latte $29 / $25 Giant, glazed ceramic coffee mug, planted with Corsican mint and unicorn grass, to look a like steaming cup of coffee. Very unique, and an excellent value. Plants will differ from photo. The saucer is about 1 foot across for scale.
Wed. Mar. 28 7 pm Charming Easter Basket $29 / $25 Beautiful multi-pastel-colored basket filled with a charming array of spring flowers that can be enjoyed now, and planted into your garden in a few, short weeks. Includes both perennial bulbs and cold-tolerant annuals for months and years of color.

Participants will leave with a completed project to show off to their friends, family and neighbors. Workshops are priced above. The price on the $29 workshops drops to $25 each if one person signs up for three or more total workshops.

Please note the photos are similar to the final project. In order to have photos ready well in advance of class there may be some differences. In many cases photo is from a previous year and the exact container may no longer be available.

Many workshops fill up quickly, so be sure to reserve your space early. Pre-registration and prepayment are required. Refunds will be given up to 24 hours before workshop time, after that we will gladly save your materials for a week for you to come get.

To register, fill out the form on the bottom of this page.  Fax it to us at (508) 885-4490 with credit card information. Or mail it with a check to:
