Fall 2009
Please Note: These classes are from a
previous time. We leave them up for reference purposes only.
Some cool weather is finally here, which must mean it's time for the fall
workshop list! This year's list reads like an all-star movie cast, as we have
tried to bring back all of the favorites from over the past few years. We chose
to reinvent these customer favorites because they have offered the very best
value we have to offer because you know how important a good value is today
There are plants that keep their color well into the fall, plants that are not
only beautiful, but edible, plus our Hydrangea Harvest class where you not only
complete 3 projects, you get a beautiful hydrangea bush so you can re-create
them year after year. Of course, we simply can't publish a list without a few
new classes up our sleeves. The Pocket Full of Posies, Herbs 'n Birds and Citrus
Circle are our brand new "crafty" type classes. And you won't want to miss the
Halloween Scene class. If you've ever taken one of our Cleanovich classes, this
will be similar, because you'll get everything but the kitchen sink! Tina had a
ball putting the new list together, but an even better time growing all of the
wonderful plants to go in them. So join us so we can share the harvest of our
farm with our very own neighbors, and help respect our environment with our
locally grown, pesticide-free fall plants.

Chock Full of Fall
$29 |
Huge basket stuffed with a giant
pumpkin, a colorful mum, kale, grapevines (all grown on our farm, of
course) along with some faux berries, since they have no seeds. Real
bittersweet can no longer be sold in Massachusetts, due to their
invasive habit, so we will use faux berries to mimic their beauty and
soften the bold texture of the pumpkin.
The pumpkins are locally grown in New
Braintree, keeping open space right here in Central Massachusetts! Did
you you that many of the pumpkins sold throughout New England are grown
in Canada? We prefer to support our own, local farmers and to help
reduce the amount of fuel used to transport the bins long distances.
The 10 am and 7 pm sessions are FULL.
There are NEW sessions scheduled for 11 am on 9/23, and also at 7 pm the
next night, Thursday Sept 24. |

Hydrangea
Harvest
Half-Day
Workshop$49 |
Create a lovely hydrangea wreath, (featured last year in a Better Homes
and Gardens publication,) a centerpiece and a topiary in just three
hours. Use fresh-picked cream, mauve and chartreuse Pee Gee hydrangea
blossoms that will last well over 2 years inside your home. (Our
bookkeeper, Dawn, made a plain hydrangea wreath 3 years ago in one of
our classes, before she worked here, and still has it in her home.) But
that’s not all. Included in the price of the class is a Pee Gee
hydrangea bush to plant in your garden so you will be able to create
your own wreaths for years to come. Think of all the gifts you can make
for friends! Everyone loves hydrangeas.
The 9 am session is FULL. There is
still room at 1 pm. |

Sun. Sept 27

Boil and Bubble
$29 |
Halloween with style! Perennials mimic
steam & froth in this witch’s cauldron that boils over with texture.
You'll get at least seven perennials that you can plant outside in
November once Halloween is over, or keep it in a bright spot inside for
a winter's worth of enjoyment.
One of the plants is Unicorn Grass,
named for it's spiral blades. Don't you agree it looks just like
steam? Of course we need to make a miniature broom stick from
twigs of the forest floor to stir the witches brew! Dichodra
'Silver Falls' is the plant that looks like froth bubbling over the
side. If you protect this plant from frost, you can save it as a
houseplant for inside.
Rounding out the collection are an assortment of perennial sedum and
other succulents.

Layered Bulb Pot
$29 |
Stuff an unbelievable amount of bulbs in
an oval pot. Pick up in dreary February for a month of welcome flowers.
(Seen elsewhere for $75)
If you
had to choose just one class, we highly recommend this one. We really
cram about $50 of bulbs into an oval pot by planting them in layers. We
over-winter it here in the greenhouses that are heated to 32 degrees for
14 weeks so they can be tricked into thinking they are underground. You
pick up the pot in February, put it inside a cool, sunny window, and you
will have a succession of blooms for a month. All just when you think
winter will never end. This is one of the most highly rated classes we
have. Each year over 100 people sign up for this class so we add
additional class times during the day so that everyone has plenty of
space and materials. More info on where
to go and how to care for them is here.
The 10 am session is FULL. There is NEW
SESSION at 11 am on the same day.
|
Participants will leave with a completed project to enjoy as well as to show off to their
friends, family and neighbors. Workshops are priced above. The price on the $29
workshops drops to $25 each if one person signs up for three or more total workshops.
Please note the photos are similar to the final project. In
order to have photos ready well in advance of class there may be some
differences. In many cases photo is from a previous year and the exact container
may no longer be available.
Many workshops fill up quickly, so be sure to reserve your space early.
Pre-registration and prepayment are required. Refunds will be given up to 24
hours before workshop time, after that we will gladly save your materials for a
week for you to come get.
